Geotechnical Drilling

Standard Penetration Test (SPT) borings, rock coring, and geotechnical sampling for subsurface characterization.

Test pit excavation in progress
Overview

Seylone provides geotechnical drilling services across the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic to support foundation design, subsurface characterization, and geotechnical investigation programs. Borings deliver direct subsurface data — soil stratigraphy, density, strength, groundwater conditions, and rock characteristics — that engineers need to design foundations, retaining walls, dewatering systems, and below-grade construction.

Crews perform Standard Penetration Test (SPT) borings, undisturbed Shelby tube sampling, rock coring, and continuous sampling depending on the program objectives and the geotechnical engineer's specifications. Drilling is performed using truck-mounted, track-mounted, and limited-access rigs to match site conditions — from open construction sites and waterfront landings to tight urban lots, basements, and rail corridors.

Seylone supports the full investigation program, not just the drilling. Crews handle utility clearance through 811 and private locating, traffic control and pedestrian protection on active streets, soil sampling per the geotechnical engineer's protocol, sample chain-of-custody, and surface restoration after the program is complete. The geotechnical engineer-of-record performs all logging, classification, and engineering interpretation.

The work supports foundation design for new construction, infrastructure programs, transportation projects, and any program where engineering decisions depend on actual subsurface conditions rather than record assumptions. Seylone works as a specialty subcontractor to geotechnical engineering firms and as a direct contractor to public agencies.
